Activity Overview
This is the 'Arranging into Groups' Activity. This is the first activity in the 'Place Value Within 10' block of lessons. 'Place Value Within 10' is a block of activities in the JustUsTwo Education Year 1 Maths curriculum. Place Value is the value of each digit in a number. We teach place value to children so they understand that numbers are made of hundreds, tens, and ones, and this helps them add, subtract, and work with bigger numbers more easily. The learning objective for this activity is: To organise objects into groups based on their similarities. Why this activity is beneficial to the child: It helps them to understand that objects can be grouped/organised in different ways and to recognise similarities and differences. Sorting objects into groups supports the child in understanding how to group numbers, which is known as 'Place Value'. The resources you will need for this activity are: - Mini Whiteboards and Whiteboard Pens OR - Paper & Pencils - Lego - Bowls and a Basket - A Variety of Fruits OR - Printable Cards Resource
